Lowenstein Sandler is proud to announce that Michael T.G. Long, partner in the firm’s White Collar Criminal Defense practice group, has been appointed by New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin to serve as Director of the Division of Law.

Long will lead over 500 attorneys in what the Attorney General calls “the largest law firm in the state… which is responsible for providing legal advice and counseling to executive branch agencies.”

Platkin’s statement continues: “We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of public servants within the Attorney General’s Office, and they are truly the engine that allows us to accomplish our important work. I am thrilled to welcome new members to the senior leadership team, who bring with them a wealth of experience as career prosecutors, devoted public servants, and talented attorneys.”

Long has extensive experience handling white collar criminal matters, internal investigations, complex commercial litigation, and state and federal appeals. Deeply committed to serving the community, for many years he served on the Board of Trustees for Partners for Women and Justice, a nonprofit which provides pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence and advocates for structural reform.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. James R. Zazzali of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Long earned his J.D. summa cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law, and his B.A from Boston College.

Porrino, Chair of Lowenstein’s Litigation, Department, says: “I had the privilege of serving as Division of Law Director from 2012 to 2014, and I know from experience how critically important and intellectually challenging that job can be. Having worked closely with Mike for many years, I also know that the Attorney General has made a fantastic choice in Mike to lead the Division.”

Lowenstein Chair and Managing Partner Gary M. Wingens, says: “I can think of no more deserving lawyer than Mike to lead this important government department, and we are so proud he will be serving the public interest in the finest tradition of our firm. In joining his fellow Lowenstein alumnus Matt Platkin, he follows in the footsteps of such colleagues as Christopher Porrino, who served as New Jersey’s Attorney General from 2016—2018; and Anne Milgram, who joined us after her stint as Attorney General from 2007 -2010, and who left the firm in 2021 to serve as Administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration."

Before being appointed Attorney General by Governor Phil Murphy, Platkin was also a partner in Lowenstein’s White Collar Criminal Defense group.
