On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Benjamin Kozinn will participate in the webinar “How to Handle Level 2 and 3 Asset Valuation Challenges" hosted by the Hedge Fund Law Report. The program will be moderated by Robin L. Barton, Associate Editor of the HFLR, and will feature Benjamin Kozinn, partner in Lowenstein Sandler’s Investment Management Practice Group, and Hugh Nelson, a director in Houlihan Lokey's financial and valuation advisory business.
The discussion topics will include: the importance of valuation to hedge fund managers, investors and regulators; classification of assets as Level 2 and Level 3, including examples of each class; the difficulty in valuing Level 2 and Level 3 assets, including specific challenges, such as when Level 2 assets become Level 3 assets; the controls managers should have in place, including robust valuation policies and procedures, controls on access to valuation information and valuation committees; the triggers for bringing in a third-party valuation agent; and the impact of the pandemic and similar crises on the valuation process.
