Ben brings a multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach to his work with alternative investment advisers, investors, and corporate clients. His prior roles as General Counsel of Claren Road Asset Management LLC, a credit-focused hedge fund; Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Goldman, Sachs & Co.; and Director of hedge fund consulting at Deutsche Bank Securities, have given him firsthand knowledge of the issues facing investors, funds, and their portfolio companies. His years of in-house experience, combined with his current and prior law firm experience (including as a corporate associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP), enable Ben to counsel clients in a unique and practical manner through a broad array of matters, ranging from fund formation, compliance, and regulatory issues to M&A deals, capital raising, and commercial arrangements.
As a legal advisor, Ben brings value to every stage of the investment life cycle. New managers seeking capital, particularly in the startup market, rely on his experience and insights with respect to structuring, seeding arrangements, managed accounts, and funds-of-one. He helps to identify a fund's objectives, minimizing risk through proactive counsel on the obstacles managers are likely to face in today's market. Existing managers also benefit from his experience in navigating the wide array of commercial and regulatory issues that can arise at any given moment.
In addition, as part of his practice with private equity managers, Ben guides clients through complex leveraged buyout transactions across a variety of industries, including technology, industrial services, logistics, and investment advisory services.
