Lowenstein Sandler’s Chief Operating Officer Michael R. Caplan has been recognized by NJBIZ in its inaugural Executive Excellence Awards, which honor the executives currently shaping the regional business landscape.
The new program recognizes C-suites, directors, vice presidents, owners, and other senior-level executives who have consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership skills, integrity, values, vision, commitment to excellence, company performance, and community service.

After an open nomination process, a panel of independent judges selected this year’s honorees using a points system to evaluate submissions.
Widely recognized for his innovative and entrepreneurial leadership across the professional services industry, Caplan manages Lowenstein’s business, financial and administrative operations with a focus on building strategic partnerships and leveraging technology solutions to drive optimal return on investment through the use of metrics, reports, and trend analysis. In his role as COO, Caplan champions the integration of technology in legal practices, guiding attorneys in leveraging digital tools to maximize business investment returns through strategic data use, analytical reporting, and trend evaluation.
Caplan has over 25 years of experience in accounting, financial, investment, and consulting businesses, and 15 years of corporate legal experience. He has worked with over 30 general counsels on managing data analytics, technology project implementation, law firm relationship management, and financial management, consistently seeking improved efficiency and effectiveness through intelligent cost reduction, program management, compliance, and risk mitigation.
Caplan was also recently included on NJBIZ’s 2025 Law Power list for the second consecutive year. He has been recognized by Financial Times North America as one of the top five Legal Intrapreneurs in the industry, Legal Innovator of the Year by The Changing Lawyer Awards, and as North American Operations Executive of the Year by the Best in Biz Awards.
