Developments in crypto, AI, and cybersecurity continue to make headlines. One common theme running through these three areas is continuing and evolving regulatory scrutiny. The SEC’s Division of Examinations has identified all three areas as priorities for 2024, and notes that it has established specialized teams within the different examination programs to better address emerging issues and risks associated with these three areas, among others. This session, featuring Lowenstein Commodities, Futures & Derivatives Chair Ryne Miller, will examine recent developments in crypto, cybersecurity, and AI, areas of regulatory convergence and divergence, and the implications of these developments for trading, markets and market participants. After completing this session, participants will have a greater understanding of:
- Where we are now with crypto, including the latest developments in the courts and Congress, and what to expect in 2025
- AI regulation in the US and elsewhere, evolving contractual and regulatory best practices, and implications for trading and markets
- Current cybersecurity threat environment for the financial services industry, the SEC’s rulemaking and enforcement environment, and best practices for broker dealers
