John Lucian Smith (“Luke”) works with high-net-worth families, family offices, and private clients on complex trust and estate planning.

In addition to his J.D. from the University of Virginia and his B.A. in economics from Harvard, Luke holds master’s degrees in history from both Brown University and the University of New Mexico.  He is also a 2026 graduate of the graduate tax program at Georgetown University Law Center, where he earned his LLM in Taxation and a Certificate in Estate Planning. Luke started his career as an  associate at Sulivan & Cromwell in London.

Luke has extensive experience in the field of education.  Prior to joining Lowenstein, he served as an educational consultant and teacher in Mexico City.  He also founded and led an international educational coaching firm in Ottawa, Canada, that advised high net worth individuals on educational opportunities in the United States.

Luke is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French.
