Cassandra Annemarie Essert’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, regulatory enforcement matters, and internal investigations in state and federal courts. Cassandra regularly represents individuals and companies in disputes involving fraud and fiduciary duty claims, contract disputes, insider trading accusations, and high-stakes discovery disputes in state and federal court.
Cassandra manages all phases of complex civil litigation, from early case assessment through resolution. She develops and executes litigation strategy by drafting and defending against dispositive motions, shaping the scope of discovery, and preparing witnesses for depositions. She regularly coordinates cross-functional teams to respond to large-scale document requests and has taken a lead role in briefing key procedural and substantive issues before the court. Beyond the courtroom, Cassandra guides clients through internal investigations, regulatory inquiries, and enforcement matters, advising on risk and positioning at each stage. She also leads settlement efforts, managing negotiations and structuring agreements that protect her clients' interests while achieving practical, business-oriented outcomes.
In addition, Cassandra has served as a faculty member of Tulane Law School’s Civil Litigation Intersession Boot Camp, an intensive, practitioner‑led program focused on pretrial civil litigation skills. Through this program, she has worked with law students on practical aspects of civil litigation, including motion practice, client interviewing, and case development, reinforcing real‑world trial and courtroom skills.
Before joining the firm, Cassandra clerked for the Honorable Michael A. Hammer, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey, and for the Honorable Robert J. Gilson of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, where she gained experience in civil motion practice, discovery disputes, and appellate review.
While pursuing her J.D., Cassandra worked full‑time as a paralegal at a boutique criminal defense firm handling complex state and federal white‑collar criminal matters, including fraud and financial crimes, and concurrently served as a research assistant to Distinguished Professor of Law Vera Bergelson.
