Marita A. Makinen, Chair of Lowenstein Sandler’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice and co-Chair of its Transactions & Advisory Group, has been included in The Deal’s 2022 list of top Women in Dealmaking in the M&A category. This is the second consecutive year that Makinen has been included.

Makinen counsels public, growth-stage technology, and consumer products clients on mergers and acquisitions as well as minority and control investments. Her deals involve highly complex capital structures, intricate management incentives, talent retention issues, and protection of intellectual property.

Known for her astute interpretation of SEC rules and regulations, Makinen provides practical disclosure advice grounded in a solid understanding of her clients' business objectives. She advises on both routine public reporting matters and complex restatements and stock exchange rule compliance issues.

The Deal notes that “this year’s list identifies attorneys who have displayed excellence in their respective legal fields including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, restructuring and activist investing.” The publication considers the top women as nominated by their peers and its own team of researchers to identify “the women setting the bar for the next generation of attorneys.”

To be eligible for the Top Women in Dealmaking list, lawyers must be partners based in the U.S. and have shown the ability to navigate complex transactions over the past 12 months while maintaining strong client relationships, and leading in and out of the boardroom.

The Deal is an award-winning financial news organization founded in 1999. Since its founding, The Deal has provided up-to-the-minute news, analysis and perspective to dealmakers across the globe through its network of events, subscription products and power rankings.

In 2022, Makinen was also included on Mergers & Acquisitions’ seventh annual list of Most Influential Women in Mid-Market M&A.
