Lowenstein Sandler received top rankings in four out of five categories in Patexia’s Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report, which provides statistics and comprehensive analysis of stakeholders in patent prosecution. This is the third time in a row Lowenstein has been ranked by this publication.

The firm was ranked 11th in the category of Best Performing Law Firms in High-Tech and 28st in the category of Best Performing Law Firms Overall. It was also included in the categories of Most Active Law Firms in High-Tech and Overall.

Patexia, Inc., an intellectual property company and global IP community, evaluated over 3,500 law firms to identify the top law firms based on a number of metrics such as activity, success, and efficiency. Utilizing data from about 1.8 million utility patents and 2.4 million utility applications issued or abandoned over the last five years (from January 1, 2016, through the end of December 31, 2020), the report covers the top 1,000 most active law firms and companies.

“After a year when so many firm and companies faced massive challenges due to the pandemic, it is humbling to be listed among both the ‘Best Performing’ and ‘Most Active,’” says Marina Portnova, partner and Chair of the firm’s Software & Electronics practice. “Consistent recognition by Patexia three years in a row shows that our Patent Counseling & Prosecution team ranks among the best in the country.”

The Patent Counseling & Prosecution group prepares and prosecutes patent applications and conducts opinion and counseling work for companies ranging in size from startups and the venture funds that back those companies to Fortune 100s and leading research universities.

Mark P. Kesslen, partner and Chair of Lowenstein’s Intellectual Property section of Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (fka, The Tech Group), says, “Patexia’s rigorous methodology provides a strong, objective basis for what we and our clients have known for years: We are among the best-performing law firms for high tech patent work and overall.”

Kevin O. Grange, a partner in both the Patent Counseling & Prosecution practice and Emerging Companies & Venture Capital (fka, The Tech Group), says, “Patexia is held in high regard by inventors and founders, so inclusion on their lists shows we really have the approval of the tech community. Startups and emerging growth companies as well as brand names know that they can entrust their intellectual property to our care.”
