All requests to make or solicit organizational, publication, or program sponsorships require prior approval. Your request will be routed to the appropriate group of recipients for approval. Please allow 24-48 hours to process your request.

ORGANIZATIONAL SPONSORSHIPS AND FIRM GIVING

Policy:

The firm sponsors or supports charitable organizations and events if and only if they serve a genuine and demonstrated business purpose, and are justified solely on business grounds as a business expense. In addition, through the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest, the firm supports a number of our pro bono partners where those contributions support or align with our pro bono commitment. Our partners and employees are encouraged to give generously to nonprofit organizations of their choice using their own resources.

The principles underlying the firm’s policy towards solicitations from clients and others for contributions and sponsorships has been substantially the same since its earliest years. We are committed to public and community service and the shared interests of our clients. As part of our business development and marketing initiatives, the firm frequently sponsors worthy causes that reflect our core values, often at the request of our clients.

When asked to support sponsorships due to relationships with clients or others with whom it is important that we maintain a strong and supportive business relationship in order to advance our business as a law firm, we will do so if our business interests make it advisable to do.

Procedure:

The firm’s Organizational Sponsorship policy is designed to ensure that all firm sponsorships are coordinated and aligned with our business goals and social responsibility strategy; maximize opportunity for firm visibility; foster long-term business relationships with our clients; and fall within our budget and resource limitations. All requests to make or solicit organizational, publication or program sponsorships require prior approval, and only partners may request sponsorships. When requesting organizational sponsorships, we ask that you consider how, when and where our firm’s name will be used, and whether the usage is consistent with our brand and marketing efforts.

Sponsorships solicited by our clients must fall within the normal course of the firm’s business development activities, and the firm must have a direct business connection with the honoree or organization. Common requests for sponsorships include fundraising events, recognition dinners, golf tournaments, and program booklets, among others. Expenses for sponsorships will be paid directly by the firm and submitted to the organization with the necessary collateral materials (e.g., advertisement, program, etc.) which have been provided and approved by our Marketing Department.

Personal payments for sponsorships submitted through expense reports or other means will not be reimbursed. In addition, the firm will not approve raffle tickets, “tricky tray” expenses, or any contribution paid directly by a partner on a credit card or by personal check; requests from local, regional and/or school-based sports teams; requests to include our name as part of a sponsorship on apparel or swag of the sponsoring organization (such as T-shirts and back packs) which does not support our marketing and brand strategy; and/or individual requests from employees.

Requests for Organizational Sponsorships should be made using the Sponsorship Request Portal [http://sponsorshiprequest/]. Backup documentation should include the sponsorship amount, the name and relationship of the client who has solicited the sponsorship or on account of whom the request for firm sponsorship is being made, the client relationship, and the name(s) of the sponsoring partner(s). Once the documentation is received, Accounts Payable will obtain the required approval from the Chief Operating Officer prior to processing. The cost of all organizational sponsorships will be shared on a 50/50 basis with the firm and the partner(s) requesting the sponsorship. The firm will charge the capital account of the partner(s) who participate(s) in this sponsorship for their 50% share.
