Lowenstein Sandler mourns the sudden passing of our partner and friend, Robert J. Kipnees, on December 2, 2018.

Rob was a kind and caring colleague, friend, and mentor with a gentle smile, a sharp wit, and a keen sense of humor. Everyone who worked with him learned from the experience and enjoyed being in his company. Rob was as thoughtful about people as he was about the law.

He was a brilliant white collar criminal defense lawyer who brought decades of trial and appellate court experience to bear in providing his clients with a robust defense aimed at effective, practical resolution of complex issues.

Rob exemplified the best of our profession. He was particularly proud of his pro bono work, which included handling sophisticated appeals for the New Jersey Public Defender's Appellate Section. He taught white collar criminal defense as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School for 19 years. Rob wrote seven editions of the Criminal Trial Practice textbook for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), and he lectured frequently on criminal matters for NJICLE and the New York City Bar Association. He also actively participated on numerous nonprofit boards and was active in the MetroWest, New Jersey, Jewish community.

Rob joined Lowenstein Sandler in 2004 after practicing for nearly 20 years at Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis LLP and serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and his B.A., cum laude and with distinction, from Cornell University.

Lowenstein Sandler extends its deepest condolences to Rob’s loving family, including his wife Helane, and his children and grandchildren. May Rob’s memory be a blessing.
