In Corporate Counsel, James C. Shehan, Chair of Lowenstein Sandler’s FDA Regulatory practice and former GC at Novo Nordisk, discusses the role of general counsel in helping companies obtain FDA approval for drugs and vaccines. Shehan describes the role of in-house lawyers as more strategic than legal "because there are not often significant legal issues that come up in the approval process." He adds that general counsel can "assist in how you're going to frame the data. You also might assist in figuring out which points need to be emphasized and de-emphasized."
