Marita A. Makinen, Chair of Lowenstein Sandler’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice and co-Chair of its Transactions & Advisory Group, has been included in The Deal’s 2021 list of top Women in Dealmaking in the M&A category.

Makinen counsels public, growth-stage technology, and consumer products clients on mergers and acquisitions as well as minority and control investments. Her deals involve highly complex capital structures, intricate management incentives, talent retention issues, and protection of intellectual property.

Some of her recent transactions include representing:

  • PVH Corp., one of the world’s largest apparel companies, in the sale of its Speedo North America business to Pentland Group for $170 million in cash.
  • The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE: EL) in its acquisition of Have & Be Co. Ltd., the Seoul-based, global skin care company valued at $1.7 billion.
  • Compassionate Care Hospice, a community-based organization providing hospice care nationwide, in its $340 million sale to Amedisys, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMED), making Amedisys the third-largest hospice provider in the United States.
  • Tower International (NYSE: TOWR), a leading manufacturer of engineered automotive structural metal components and assemblies, in its $900 million sale to Autokiniton Global Group.

To be eligible for the Women in Dealmaking list, lawyers must be partners based in the U.S. The Deal recognizes women in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, restructuring and bankruptcy, and activism, as well as adjacent industries such as lending and capital markets.
