Lowenstein Sandler has been selected as counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Exide Technologies. The manufacturer and recycler of automotive lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries filed for Chapter 11 protection in the District of Delaware in May 2020, citing approximately $817.4 million of funded debt as of the petition date.  Lowenstein most recently represented the UCC in Exide’s previous bankruptcy proceedings filed in 2013. The multidisciplinary, two-year engagement included environmental, antitrust, employment, litigation, and other heavily contested issues. The company successfully emerged from bankruptcy in 2015.
