Melissa Toner Lozner is Counsel to the Firm's Litigation Department and a member of the Firm's White Collar Criminal Defense Practice Group and Appellate Practice Area. She also serves as a founding staff member of the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest.

Ms. Lozner's practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, complex commercial civil litigation, and appellate practice. She has represented numerous corporate and individual clients in criminal and civil matters, and has appeared in various state and federal courts. As a member of the White Collar Criminal Defense Practice Group, Ms. Lozner has represented clients in criminal and quasi-criminal investigations and prosecutions at the federal, state and municipal levels. Ms. Lozner also has a robust civil litigation practice, with experience representing corporations in cases ranging from qui tam actions asserted under the False Claims Act to class actions in the areas of ERISA, RICO, consumer fraud, securities fraud and accounting fraud. She has also represented a high-ranking government official in a case involving novel issues of constitutional law concerning the operation of the state budget process. As a member of the Appellate Practice Area, Ms. Lozner also has expertise in appellate litigation. Her work has led to several appellate victories in both civil and criminal cases, including reversal of class certification in a multi-million dollar nationwide consumer fraud case.

As a founding staff member of the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest, Ms. Lozner is responsible for developing initiatives aimed at maximizing the societal impact of the firm's pro bono work, increasing and facilitating attorney participation in pro bono activities within the firm, and continuing to handle specific pro bono matters. She is particularly active in the firm's partnership with the New Jersey Public Defender's Office handling pro bono criminal appeals, and also represents pro bono clients in other matters concerning asylum and international human trafficking.

Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Lozner served as a law clerk for the Honorable Boyce F. Martin, Jr., Chief Judge Emeritus of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She was also formerly associated with the New York law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.
