Christopher S. Porrino is Vice Chair of the firm's Litigation Department. He concentrates his practice in complex business litigation and white collar criminal defense. Mr. Porrino has been listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business every year since 2006. The publication has recognized him as an "absolutely top notch litigator" for his "instincts" and ability to "get matters resolved quickly," a "goal-oriented yet realistic" litigator who "invariably makes the right choices" and as a "rising star for complex commercial and criminal cases." Mr. Porrino is also listed among The Best Lawyers in America (2012) for his commercial litigation and securities litigation work and has been featured in Super Lawyers every year since 2009.
Mr. Porrino represents corporate and individual clients in complex civil business disputes and in white collar criminal matters involving real estate issues, shareholder disputes, oppression claims and business divorce matters, insurance fraud, bank fraud, securities fraud, tax fraud, antitrust and political corruption. He is particularly well known for his work in complex business litigation, having recently helped secure a multi-billion dollar result in a class action securities fraud case. He also regularly defends lawyers, accountants, physicians, pharmacists and scientists in criminal and professional disciplinary matters. In addition, Mr. Porrino has conducted numerous internal investigations for businesses faced with allegations of wrongdoing or suspected wrongdoing by insiders.
In recent years, he successfully defended a bank alleged to have participated in a money laundering scheme, several public corporations alleged to have committed securities fraud, numerous corporate officers, directors and shareholders charged with or alleged to have participated in securities fraud and/or accounting fraud, attorneys charged with tax fraud, a client charged with identity theft and a person wrongfully accused of masterminding an international child smuggling ring.
Following graduation from law school, Mr. Porrino served as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Freda L. Wolfson, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, where he was involved in complex federal litigation.
Mr. Porrino presently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. He continues to serve as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Committee on Model Civil Jury Charges. Mr. Porrino is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Summit Speech School, a non-profit educational institution which serves deaf and hard of hearing children.
