Within the inner circle of entrepreneurial leaders who make up the top management of many of his clients, Allen Levithan is seen as a reliable sounding board — a source of insightful, timely advice on a wide range of issues. As an advisor to both investment management companies — hedge funds, in particular — and privately held companies, Allen is more than simply their lawyer. He is considered a trusted outsider who is intimately familiar with their business and who can bring an objective viewpoint to their decision-making process.
In the case of his many hedge fund management clients, that advice most often concerns the overlay of complex new rules — such as the Dodd-Frank regulations — that affect the way they do business. Allen advises these clients, not just on ways to accommodate these changes but also on the potential impact of future regulations.
For privately held companies, many of which have no inside legal department, Allen often serves as general counsel. While some of these companies are long-established, family-owned businesses, others are newly formed companies in the process of obtaining financing. He also serves as Lowenstein Sandler’s General Counsel.
Since 2008, Allen has been an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School-Newark, teaching the Hedge Funds and Investment Management Seminar.
